openness
being ourselves, depending on one another, fostering trust, being open to what others have offer, not feeling alone...
When we came up with this value we initially wanted to call it 'trust', but we realised trust isn't something you can just ask people to have. So we thought about which values would best encourage a trusting environment, and decided openness is key.
We realise this isn't always something today's society makes easy for us, but by adopting it as a value we help ourselves to keep it in mind, and to recognise and encourage it in others. I'm continually impressed by the openness of people at our Show and Tell sessions, which have shown me that it's possible to have sincere and in depth conversation without it becoming heavy or awkward.
